West Side Story - October 2009
West Side Story is one of the most famous and familiar shows in the history of theatre.
It is a 1950's twist on Shakespeare's classic Romeo and Juliet. Tony, a member of an established white gang (the Jets) fallis in love with Maria, whose brother is a member of the rival Puerto Rican gang (the Sharks). The Jets are contemptuous of the Sharks and look down on them as foreign newcomers, whilst the Sharks wish to establish themselves as Americans and defend their territory.
